Our area continues to be blighted by litter dropped onto our streets and by bulk items dumped anywhere around our streets and gardens. Over the last few months, residents have reported to us that the problem seems to have deteriorated - black bags left on pavements, lamppost bins overflowing, bulk items left out outwith the prescribed times.
The issue which we take with the Cleansing Department (now Land and Environmental Services) is not that they don't respond well to phone calls and e-mails to Polmadie informing them of specific problem areas, it is the fact the if nobody complains, the stuff stays dumped and the rubbish sit on the pavement - the problem stays. As was stated at the start of this newsletter, freezing Council Tax must affect services and although the routine bin emptying has continued to be a quality service, it is the ad-hoc services which have suffered.
The City Council has assured us that there are no plans to move from weekly to fortnightly bin-emptying and blue bin recycling uplifts will continue on a 2 weekly basis.
An issue in our area is that new residents are not aware on which days we have bulk uplifts. Cleansing assure us that they will supply leaflets for all closes requiring one detailing days, times and other information relating to bulk uplift in tenement property.
When it really comes down to it, it's US who do the dumping and the littering!!!
If residents see something which has been dumped and requires uplifting, phone Clean
