Community Safety Services: -  Anne Hamilton reported on the role of this new department  which has involvement from Police as well as personnel previously working in various council departments.  They will deal with graffiti,  noise, litter, abandoned cars, fly tipping among others.   CSS wants to encourage residents and businesses to report incidents and arrange clean ups.  There will be Community Safety Officers deployed in the Linn and Langside area, depending on the need.  These people will wear grey uniforms.   CCS will identify problems then decide on the best course of action to take, e.g  if an area has a problem with underage drinking then they may decide to radio link the off-sales to alert them about youngsters who are trying to buy or get others to buy for them. A number of issues were raised from the floor: E. Ritchie  re debris left by the bin lorries and difficulties contacting the supervisor. C Boyce  re graffiti on an NTL junction box which was classed as private and the council would not clean it.  A. Hamilton said she would check on these issues and also the earlier concerns of urinating in the streets on football match days.   R.Pollock suggested a meeting with the various interested parties (MFCC, Council, Police, Hampden) to discuss the issues.

A.Hamilton then spoke of Community Service Order which is a new resource and will allow offenders to pay back for their crime by doing work in the community.  Fixed penalties can be issued which can go back into paying for the service.

J. Scott thanked A. Hamilton for her input and she left the meeting.
