Meeting of MFCC Local Initiatives Sub-Committee

Monday 6th February

Present: David; Gordon; Joyce; Malcolm; Robert

Apologies: Barbara; Sarah

Action Points

The primary focus of the meeting was to identify local initiatives to be taken forward by the summer.

It was agreed that the proposed initiatives would be brought to the next meeting of the MFCC on 28th February for agreement - and to give the opportunity for others to volunteer to be involved in the initiatives.

Five local initiatives were identified. These are listed below.

Beside each initiative I have put the names of those who indicated their willingness to take the initial lead in progressing the issue.

·        Traffic and Roads (David)

It was agreed that the Land Services Department of the Council should be approached and an update sought in regard to traffic calming / flow, parking at shops and parking in prohibited areas in Mount Florida.

·        Notice Board (Robert)

It was agreed that options for a community notice board should be identified. Hampden Park should be approached for part sponsorship and the £500 Police Fund considered as a funding option.

·        Rubbish and Fly tipping (Joyce / Barbara)

It was agreed that Alan Sinclair from Polmadie Cleansing Depot should be invited to a meeting of the MFCC to discuss local concerns and identify actions e.g. distributing circulars to local residents and businesses regarding responsibilities and the services available from cleansing department.

·        Green Space / Recreation Space (Sarah)

It was agreed that we should get a better understanding of the Council’s green space and recreation plans for the community. We should then move towards gaining a commitment from the Council on the preservation and upgrading of green space in the area, especially in regard to the recreation pitches.

·        Planning (Malcolm)

It was agreed that Malcolm will take the lead on reviewing planning applications. It was also agreed that Lewis McSween from the Council should be invited to a meeting of the Local Initiatives Sub-Committee to get a more detailed insight into potential plans for Mount Florida and neighbouring areas. There also needs to be feedback provided to the Council on the City Plan 2 Consultative Draft.

Proposed dates of next meeting of Local Initiatives Sub- Committee: Monday 6th March or Thursday 9th March. Meeting will be held in Session Room of Church.
