Mount Florida Community Council has, at present, 15 Community Councillors. We have 5 vacancies. So any resident over the age of 16 will be made very welcome. We meet approximately 10 times each year (on the 4th Tuesday of the month - except July and August). The only qualification required is an interest in what's happening in The Mount and a keenness to make things better - ie better services and better facilities. Look forward to meeting you at our AGM on Tuesday 24th or by e-mail on mfcc@hotmail.co.uk or by leaving a message here on our website.

There are various sites in Mount Florida where dumping of rubbish, including household items is taking place on an ongoing basis. We are actively trying to remedy this situation to make Mount Florida a nicer place to live. Rubbish should either be disposed of in black bin bags at the communal bin area, or Glasgow City Council can be called to pick up bulk refuse or fridges.
On street rubbish bins should not be used for household rubbish, as they are small and quickly overflow. We are also concerned about people of all ages throwing away rubbish in the street. Finally, we are hoping to instigate advertising for increasing the use of the blue recycling bins where paper, carton, tins, and plastic bottles can be disposed of for recycling.

One of the issues identified to have an adverse effect on Mount Florida and its residents is parking.
Parking restrictions on Cathcart Road Parking restrictions on Cathcart Road mean that residents who depend on the car to undertake their shopping find it difficult to find nearby parking. arking restrictions on Cathcart have therefore a serious effect on llocal businesses. We would like to see the parking restrictions on Cathcart Road lifted for the shopping area so that temporary parking will be possible. Parking Restrictions during Matches/Concerts at Hampden Park During matches and concerts at Hampden Park, further parking restrictions apply. While nothing can be changed about this, we would like to see better communication with Hampden Park, and have provided links to the events pages of Hampden Park on this website. Hopefully, this means that residents will be better aware of dates and park their cars accordingly. Parking behaviour We are also concerned about inconsiderate parking in Mount Florida. No parking signs and road markings are often ignored, and access to streets is often obstructed by cars parked on corners. This is a potential health and safety hazard for emergency vehicles. In addition, cars are parked on pavements or on access points to pavements, thus constituting a dangerous obstacle for wheelchair users and prams. Park and Ride Many people use Mount Florida to Park and Ride, leaving their cars near the train station in the morning. This adds to the difficulty of finding parking spaces for local residents. |
